Motorola Flipout Mobile Phone Review – A Phone So Hip, it's Square: A Well Equipped Little Phone With a Full QWERTY
The Motorola Flipout is unusual in many ways. Its appearance is one that jumps out and grabs the eye—along with being perfectly square, it's available in lots of different colors as well. Surprisingly, its also equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard, despite its tiny size. This isn't the only big surprise this diminutive phone has to offer, however.
It's appearance is something that will truly wow many users. Available in brilliant saffron, icy blue, decadent licorice, raspberry red, vivid green, poppy red, and simple white, you'll be hard pressed to find one that doesn't suit you. It also comes with interchangeable covers, allowing you to switch colors as you like. At 120g, it's a surprisingly heavy phone for it's bitty size, but it's hardly bulky or brick-like. Rather, it feels strong and solid in the palm.
Its 2.8 touchscreen is a bit on the small side, but not so much that it inhibits reading or navigation. It's quite responsive, and when you combine its accelorometer, multi-touch data input technology, and proximity sensors with a Google Android operating system, you have a surprisingly well equipped little phone. It's hardly perfect—there have been reports of some crashes, especially when accessing the Android Market, but it's hardly unusable.
Its camera is also surprisingly well built, with 3 megapixels and a wealth of editing tools. Also included are features like geo tagging and face detection. Alas, there is no flash or LED light, which means you'll need to limit your photography to well lit areas. Gloomy or dark settings will result in noisy, distorted shots. However, its editing features allow you to rotate, add borders, change from color to black and white, and more. Ideally, this should be a camera used for quick snaps on the go rather than as a replacement for your digital camera.
